Northumberland Athletics

Over 200 hundred year 6 boys and girls repsented their areas in the Northumberland Under 11's Sportshall County Final at Willowburn Leisure Centre on Thursday 13th Novemeber.  Teams where represented from Alnwick, Berwick, Tynedale, Blyth, Morpeth and Cramlington.

As the sports centre filled with excited children, the multi coloured equipment layout awaited the start of an afternoon of high level competition on the track and in the field. An enthusiastic welcome for every team was followed by an opening speech in which Allison Curbishley, former British athlete, the guest of honour from Sporting Champions, called on the children to compete with skill, determination and true sportsmanship.

The Enthusiasm shown by the children has made each of the heats and final a great success.  Although we congratulate Ovingham Middle School for winning the County Final with some fantastic performances, we also applaud all those who participated.  All people involved from the children through to the staff assisting on the event should be very proud of their efforts.  We have now establish a strong team of staff helping to organise and run the Sportshall events and we are constantly striving to help the events to run as smoothly and more importantly be as fun as possible.
